Steven was born and raised in the Bay Area and currently lives in Half Moon Bay. He served a tour of duty in the Gulf War as a member of the United States Air Force, earning the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Overseas Service Long Tour Ribbon with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, and many more before returning home to attend College of San Mateo. Steven was first accepted into the Electrical Apprenticeship Program in 1998 and worked his way up the ranks to the position of Political Director & Community Affairs Liaison, where he has served since 2014.
Steven has always been very involved in the community. He regularly volunteers with organizations throughout the Peninsula that are focused on providing critical services for underserved youth and seniors, providing access to high-speed Internet, job training and healthy meals. He even found ways to volunteer during the early days of the pandemic (check out this video of him reading to our County’s youth). Through his work with IBEW, Steven is a regular at Board of Supervisors and City Council meetings up and down the Peninsula, advocating for workers’ rights and affordable housing. Steven also serves on the Boards for the Police Activities League, Sheriff’s Activities League, the Clean Energy Citizens Advisory Committee and many more local organizations, and is a member of the San Mateo NAACP.
Representation matters, and that’s why Steven is running for Supervisor. For a county as diverse as ours, the leadership has not reflected that same diversity. Steven believes that our county government needs to be more accessible and approachable, especially for underserved and underrepresented communities that stand to benefit the most from County services. If elected, Steven will fight every day to ensure that each of his constituents has a seat at the table.
